Restored from the original 2013-2015 smartphone apps
In 2012, the Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) of the Government of the Northwest Territories and the Yamózha Kúé Society developed Indigenous language apps for five Dene languages that would be used with all learners of all ages in Dene communities and larger centres of the NWT. In the following year, ECE partnered with both the NWT Métis Nation and the Inuvialuit Cultural Resource Centre to expand the apps to Cree, Inuvialuktun, and Inuinnaqtun.
Over the years, updates to the iOS and Android operating systems rendered the apps obsolete, leading to the emergence of other app development projects across the NWT. However, the learners appreciated the contents of these apps that covered all the principal NWTʼs Indigenous languages. As such, their vocabulary and accompanying audio clips have been restored here.
Note that the Uummarmiutun (Inuvialuktun), Shúhta Got’ı̨nę (Sahtu Dene Kǝdǝ́), and Dëne Dédlıné (Dëne Sųłıné) dialects are represented in the apps.
